Determinants of Reading Efficiency of the Students with Visual Impairment

Successive, serial mode of language input during tactile reading has certain limitations compared to print and requires a lot effort decoding. The aim this causal-comparative study was identify some determinants the students with visual impairment efficiency in Serbia. sample consisted 35 both genders, aged between 13 21, who used braille as primary medium. Three-dimensional Reading Test for assessment. measures were oral speed comprehension. technique (one-handed vs. two-handed) experience monitored determinates which could impede efficiency. ANOVA Scheffe’s post hoc tests detect differences various categories readers have impairment. Results showed that average read 51.61 words per minute, great variability speed. Statistically significant found experience, well use different techniques. Two-handed achieve good speed, while one-handed are considered poor readers. comprehension ranges high regardless or These results indicated does not jeopardize comprehension, it only threatens rate. Obtained findings serve meaningful guidelines educational approaches children
